Tonight’s Game Cancelled

Please note that the game scheduled for this evening, January 29th, against the Regency Baptist School Broncos, has been cancelled due to transportation problems. We will attempt to reschedule this game as soon as possible.

Please remember our next home game, Friday, February 5th. Warm-up start at 6pm with the Match beginning at 6:30pm.

Crusader’s Bring Home 3rd Place

Congratulations to our BBCA Crusaders Basketball team for their third place finish this season. Each player should be very proud of their accomplishments, as they gained their first win in 5 seasons and finished the year with a 5-7-0 record. Following are the season leaders stats:

Scoring (2 point): James F. – 144 pts., – 62/130 (48%)
Scoring (3point): Michael A. – 33 pts., – 11/35 (31%)
Rebounds: Richie C. – 139 – 12/gm. avg.

Congratulations to Richie C. for getting his “Double Double” on Jan. 8th (15 points with 15 rebounds). A special thanks to our lone Senior player, Chris R. Thank you for your leadership and your indelible spirit. Good luck as you enter into your career as a United States Marine! Our prayers and hopes go with you. Also, a special thanks to Coach Corey Eaton; your patience, persistence, and performance in practice and in the games has led these young men to a new level of confidence and expectation. We look forward with great anticipation for next season.

James and David did well in their last race and had a lot of fun. Thankfully it wasn’t as cold has last year. There were 176 finishers in the 10k this year. Here’s the results:

Spirit Week Opener

On Monday evening, October 19, 6:00 p.m., our Crusader’s basketball team fought valiantly in a loss to the Hopewell Huskies. While the loss was disappointing, it serves as a reminder that nothing is given to you in this life; you must work hard and give it your all if you want to succeed. That being said, I am confident that our boys will taste victory again this season. Our next game is Friday evening, October 23, 6:00 p.m. Please come out and support our boys as they compete with the Arlington Patriots.

Spirit Week

Spirit week is just around the corner, and with it comes our team’s first two home games. We will kick-off the week with a game on Monday, October 19, 6:00 p.m., and we will close out spirit week with a game on Friday, October 23, 6:00 p.m. The snack bar will open at 5:00 p.m. for all home games. So make plans now to come by, enjoy a hot dog and nachos, and cheer on our Crusaders. See you at the game!

CRUSADERS WIN!

That’s right; the BBCA Crusaders Boys Basketball team captured their first win in four seasons on Friday evening. The game was played in El Cerrito against the Arlington Patriots. Against the backdrop of four winless seasons, the very loud home crowd, and their own uncertainty, our Crusaders played with courage and determination to bring home this victory.

At the end of the first quarter we trailed by only one point; however, at halftime we were down by six. Then, the boys rallied together and, with a stifling defensive effort, went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter to take a six point lead; a lead they would not relinquish through the remainder of the game. Our boys outscored the Patriots 21-17 in the fourth quarter to secure a 46-35 victory!

This win was a total team effort with all seven boys playing and contributing in a meaningful way. Congratulations to the team and to Coach Eaton on the victory! Keep up the good work!

Biggest Loser

Announcing the BBCA Biggest Loser contest. Starting next Monday (10/5/09) we will have a weigh-in for all volunteer participants in a Biggest Loser Contest. Each week in front of the assembled school we will have weigh-in event with much cheering and hooting. The contest will run all school year with the winner being the person with the highest over-all weight loss by percentage. As of now the confirmed participates will be:

Chris R. – A senior training for Marine boot camp when he graduates
Brian Petro – cross country coach
Brett Petro – PE teacher

More participants are welcome (especially teachers)! Participants can choose if they only want their percentage loss/gain announced and not their total weight. As of now our only prize is bragging rights, but I’m open to suggestions about that. Of course players are encouraged to participate in Mrs. Petro’s PE and adult women’s work outs and Mr. Petro’s runs. The contest will conclude on the last Monday of the school year. Please note that anyone participating must do so under the supervision of their own personal doctor.

Heads up on running practice

Just wanted to give everyone a reminder that all running practices are posted on the school calendar at least a couple weeks ahead of time. Our first practice is tomorrow (monday 8/31). If for some reason I have to cancel a practice last minute I will change it on the school calendar. Of course I will try to avoid last minute cancellations, however all runners should make it a habit of checking the school calendar a half hour before each practice.

Also, I am considering this year having a few practices that would involve the team biking from my house to a trail-head where we will start running practice. Parents: Please let me know if this doesn’t work for you. Some of the roads have a lot of turns and a narrow shoulder. I feel perfectly safe on them, but I wanted to give you the option to have your kids opt out.
