2009/2010 New Year-New Class-New You
Welcome to the 2009/2010 5th-6th grade class. First, I want to welcome our new students: Sixth graders Alexa, Dane, and Mike and Fifth graders Cheyenne and Megan. Welcome back to: Sarai and Annika, in the 5th grade, and Chris, Amber, and Alyssa, in the 6th grade.
Most of the first day of school was spent going over the rules, regulations, emergency procedures, and what the students can expect with homework and grades. The students were informed that 10% of their grade will come from homework, and they can improve their grade by turning in all homework assignments. Conversely, if they do not turn in their homework they can get a poorer grade.
I want to keep all parents informed as to what subjects your students are working on. Following are the current assignments:
MATH: The 6th graders have started working in the math to allow them to master dividing, multiplying, adding, and subtracting fractions. The 5th graders are working on the metric system while at the same time reviewing multiplying and dividing.
ENGLISH: The 6th graders are working on sentence structure and creative writing. The 5th graders are perfecting their skills on verbs, nouns, and subjects.
HISTORY AND SCIENCE: I feel so privileged to teach your student New World History and God’s Creation-Science. The whole class just completed their first test in each of these subjects. History focused on the Northwest Territory concerning territory, tundra, timberline, and the frigid zone. The Science test focused on the composite plant family and all of the insects associated with this plant family. I was pleased as to how well each student performed on these two tough tests.
Our other subjects are penmanship, cursive writing, spelling, reading and comprehension.
My goal, to both students, and parents, is to give plenty of notice of upcoming tests. To all parents and students, please do not hesitate to come to me with any questions and concerns; however, please wait until the end of the day, or make an appointment.
Our first field trip is scheduled for Thursday, October 1st. It is a trip to the King Tut exhibit. Please have your student at the school well before 8am, to allow us to depart at 8:10am.
